This is character driven series, written from the point of view of the hero, Candale. It is what I would consider a dark fantasy piece, but only because of the nature of his visions, in other ways it could be considered high fantasy. The Shadow Seer is different, I think, from other fantasy novels because, where they tend to start when the big evil is waking and the world going to crap, the Shadow Seer starts before this and shows what may result if the big evil wins. It isn't about good verses evil, but freewill verses destiny, with the threat of evil hanging over head the entire time. I think that, because of this, it brings something new to the genre and, because of the visions involved, gives a different perceptive to the events than we usually get in a fantasy book. I chose to write it from the first person point of view, even though a lot of people seem to prefer third, simply because this is what the story demanded of me, what felt natural to me as I was writing it. The novel is about Candale, not his friends. It's about him, his life and experiences and I thought that, in this case, it made more sense for the reader to be inside his head, going through all of this with him. I hope that, when people get into the book, they will cease to notice the point of view and that it won't put too many people off, as it is still a good story, even if I do say so myself.
